Welcome to the new ACBS (contextualpsychology.org) website -- a living resource for the ACT, RFT, and Contextual Behavioral Science community. If you are a member of the public, clicking on ACT for the Public to the left will get you to a more generally useful starting point since this page is mostly designed with professionals and students in mind and you can get a bit lost with all of the options.
With the advent of the new site we are making several changes in the society itself. Memberships are now rolling, meaning that whenever you join, your membership is good for 12 months from that date. We are also trying to put the ACT model more into the running of the society itself: We are the only large society we know of with values-based dues, in which members pay whatever they think fits the value of this work to them given their situation. Perhaps as a result, there are over 1,300 members in 2008 (see our membership directory). In addition, we are proud to say that dues received per member is up since values-based dues were instituted, approaching $50 per member on average, because while some pay only one dollar others are moved to pay much more. Another reflection of the values of the community: this site has many wiki features: members can add content in most areas. The new site features videos, clinical support materials, and Listserv feeds for members (much of this you can only see if you pay to join the society and then log in to the site); new menus and organization; and a much smoother way to get information or to share new information with others. The ACBS staff is continuing to smooth the functioning of the site, and to add new content (as are members from around the world). We hope you enjoy the changes and will find this vast network of materials useful to you and to those you serve.
